The shape and functionality of the new hydraulic Campagnolo Record Ergopower 12-speed Disc Brake Controls stem from meticulous studies carried out to guarantee the most efficient and effective ergonomics possible.
New mechanical Ergopower 12X2 Speed Record Disc Brake controls: comfort, control, speed, reactivity
The new mechanical Ergopower 12×2 Speed Record Disc Brake controls take full advantage of the widely respected, proven Campagnolo technologies and have become indispensable for those who are in the saddle for extended periods. One such technology is Vari-Cushion, which offers an ergonomic, comfortable and safe support and grip. There is also the “one lever-one action” feature that assigns each lever one function to prevent shifting errors. The Ultra-Shift mechanism enables upshifting up to three sprockets at a time and downshifting a full five. Furthermore, the new mechanical Ergopower 12×2 Record Disc Brake controls offer lever adjustability that utilises Reach Adjustment to move the brake lever closer to the low grip, thus adapting to the different hand sizes. AMS Adjustment allows modulating the moment of shift engagement through the use of specific levers. The carbon fibre brake levers feature a unidirectional disposition of the fibre to ensure they match seamlessly with the other components of the groupset.
The flat-mount Campagnolo brake calipers ensure powerful, modular braking in any situation owing to pistons measuring 22 millimetres in diameter. The pad return is now optimised to ensure that there is no friction when the brake lever is released. A special metal plate positioned between the pad and the caliper piston, cushions the vibrations during braking. The different Campagnolo brake calipers were designed to be mounted together with the disc chosen by the rider and to always guarantee the highest level of performance. It is indeed possible to choose the brake caliper with a disc measuring either 140 mm (limited to cyclists weighing no more than 82 kg) or 160 mm in diameter. Careful attention was given to making maintenance and assembly operations easy: the pads have wear indicators and replacing them is facilitated by the absence of physical return springs. Additionally, work was done on the insertion of the disc in the caliper to make changing the wheel easier and faster.
The twelfth sprocket heralds a new era for mechanical groupsets, allowing cyclists to achieve levels of versatility that have never been reached before, matched with Campagnolo’s typical quality and reliability. The design of the new Record™ 12×2 Speed groupset originated from a blank canvas, redesigning all components to improve their performance, while maintaining the same overall dimensions to retain full compatibility with the frames and wheels on the market. The 12-speed chain, with a thinner design than the previous one, has a life span equal to or longer than the 11-speed model. The crankset has been completely redesigned, with the aim of being effective even with wider chain crossings; the rear derailleur has a rocker arm capable of supporting sprockets of up to 32 teeth. The front derailleur has been lightened to reduce overall dimensions, while maintaining its effectiveness on different frames and types of bicycles. The hydraulic disc brake system is a further addition to all this, offering power and braking modulability without sacrificing ease of wheel maintenance and shifting, thanks to the introduction of a few technical measures.
